“Scars from being teased and starving myself in high school will always remain, or at least I thought until you started your organization. What you're doing is not only changing the lives of young women, but it's healing the lives of adults as well, like myself.” – Christine, Supporter

Where do all of the free thinking, off beat marching, riff raff entrepreneurs and creatives go for inspiration? Create The Map! Create The Map is a blog for creative entrepreneurs, dreamers and free thinkers looking for inspiration to make their projects and dreams come true!
Being a rebellious, hard working and creative chick I was asked to do an interview about how Rewrite Beautiful started with Jay Delaney of Create The Map. Check out our conversation here:
Combining Three Passions Into a Nonprofit
Irvina Kanarek used to have three different jobs: (1) a nanny, (2) and art teacher, and (3) a job at an eating disorder rehab center. Through each of these jobs – and the juxtaposition of them – she learned that how women see beauty in themselves has a rippling effect throughout their lives, from birth to childhood to adulthood. One day, in the midst of writing and reading a blog post online, she had the realization to start a nonprofit aimed at telling girls, “Your beauty isn’t in the way you look.” Irvina launched the nonprofit Rewrite Beautiful to help prevent eating disorders.
“I think every single thing you do, take a look at it. That’s building on the next thing you’re going to do and building on the next thing you’re going to do.” -Irvina Kanarek
As she was developing the nonprofit, Irvina had a few key criteria she wanted to stick to. She wanted prevention to be one of her main points; she knew she wanted to use art; she knew she wanted it to be fun; and she knew she wanted it to be something open to people of all ages. Slowly she began to share the idea with people, and many of her friends could see the passion she had. (Irvina has had an eating disorder herself.) The idea blossomed and evolved over a year’s time as she had conversations with friends who worked in fields such as marketing, communications, and law; they each helped push her onward, asking important questions, offering valuable advice, and ultimately helping her to refine her idea.

Yup, you heard that right! Rewrite Beautiful has traveled down under (well, sort of…via the world wide web that is :) ) But, nevertheless Rewrite Beautiful is inspiring Kerin of Australia to CHANGE how she see’s beauty in herself and others. She says the following on her blog: A Space to Create, "This blog is a space for me explore creatively to express how beauty lives within each of us and can be experienced everyday in the world around us. My Blog will consist of my photos and inspirations that reflect the beauty I see within the people I know and meet, but more importantly the beauty of the world I live in. I am using creativity to teach beautiful as an action."
I found out a couple of weeks ago that Kerin stumbled upon Rewrite Beautiful via the web and was so inspired by the message that she decided to make her own blog dedicated to finding the true beauty in herself and her friends. How rad is that?! I checked out her blog and it’s rad. She features pictures of her friends, nature, animals and writes the qualities she finds beautiful about them. It’s a true ‘Rewrite’ Blog and I just love it! I hope Kerin inspires you to also find your own little 'Rewrite' niche in the world whether it’s through a blog, writing, art, street art or photography! It's so rad to see people wanting to ‘Rewrite’ with us!
Keepin’ it Beautiful,
In July we hosted TELEIOS, an Art Show that gave local fine artists the opportunity to ‘Rewrite Beautiful’ through their work. The art alone was moving and thought provoking, but we also wanted to give the gallery guests the opportunity to ‘rewrite’ beautiful for themselves. Thus, we gave everyone who entered the TELEIOS show a gallery card that described what the theme of TELEIOS was, a piece of colored paper and a Sharpie marker. We gave them instructions to evaluate the art in the gallery and then come to their own definition of ‘beautiful.’ Here are some of the cards from the wall. Enjoy!

Check back for pics on “The most Spooktacular day of the year” Monday, October 31st :)
Keepin’ it Beautiful,
Rewrite Beautiful is currently testing out our Beautiful Action Club’s with 5 different, beautiful, female gals! They are the first group to take the Beautiful Action Club curriculum and TEST it out with a group of their friends. The Beautiful Action Club's will play a huge part in the prevention aspect of Rewrite Beautiful. The curriculum will be centered around how to be Creative, Kind and Strong on a daily basis. We hope that through these club's more girls will be able to call themselves 'beautiful' because they will see it themselves in their action!
We would like to thank our Beautiful Action Club Leaders for being some ambitious and brave chicas who are helping spread Rewrite Beautiful throughout the world! We would like to thank them all here for their help!
You all rock! Thank you for ‘keeping it Beautiful!
If you would like some information on how to also become a Beautiful Action Club Leader and test try our curriculum on your friends than please email: email@example.com for more information.
