RWB Grassroots

Time to party harty rock n’ roll! Our new website is FINALLY finished! You know how people say, “All good things come to those who wait” and you roll your eyes and think, “Ugh, that’s so cliché! Give it to me now!” Well, there is a lot you, me, “we” have learned in the past few months. When you take things slow you’re able to test things out. Let the not so good things pass on by and realize the value and rarity in uber good things (and hold on tight to them!)  We did a whole lotta testing and ended up with awesomeness aka our awesome new site made by our new friends from Aryosys! We’re so glad we waited, you can check out why at:

Hey Beautiful Peeps! Do you know what the Rewrite Beautiful Mission Statement is? Check it...

"A revolution to change how girls see beauty in themselves with art for the prevention of eating disorders. Equipping girls to use their creative skills to impact their communities."

Are you thinkin', "What the heck does equipping girls to use their creative skills to impact their communities even mean?" We know...impact...sounds like something written in a memo by the LA County Police department. What we mean though, is pretty simple: Use the skills you have and help out the people in your community. Big, small, no one's measuring, but just the ACT itself is earth shatteringly, devastatingly, jaw droppingly BEAUTIFUL! I mean really, who does anything for free? There has to be a catch right? Volunteering, charity, helping out is BEAUTIFUL because it's what is truly eye catching, it's different, it's unique and it's rare to see it in young girls and young women. But, check out my friend Tirzah she totally gets it! Tirzah made us our new Rewrite Beautiful logo and ain't it amazing! Tirzah is the quintessential Rewrite Beautiful girl because she is a full circle beauty in that she is CREATIVE, KIND and STRONG!

First of all Tirzah is CREATIVE because she used her uber duberly awesome Graphic Design skills to help make this logo for us for no-cha-ching...FREE! Creativity is Beautiful.

Tirzah is KIND because she patiently worked with our Executive Director who kept juggling random and elaborate ideas in front of her 4 different times. But, Tirzah stook by her word to help out our "Beautiful Queen of Creative Tangents" and came up with a winning logo! Kind is Beautiful.

Tirzah is STRONG in that she made an effort and found time to volunteer with Rewrite Beautiful even when she had her own obligations being a Graphic Designer, wife and friend. She cares about changing how girls define beauty and is willing to stand strong and work for it! Strong is Beautiful.

Thanks for being an amazing example of a Rewrite BEAUTIFUL girl Tirzah! We love you!

Tirzah is BEAUTIFUL!

Hey BEAUTIFUL peeps! We accomplished our 1st Rewrite Beautiful Street Art Lesson a couple weeks ago at Whittier Christian School. I was up in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. Visiting by Beautiful little sister, Sessa and checkin' out the Street Art Scene for some Rewrite Beautiful inspiration....before I show some of the highlights I have a couple of sidenotes:

1.) To my conservative Irvine peeps - No, Rewrite Beautiful does not plan on "Tagging" the Orange County area. We always create "movable" pieces of Street Art. We would never think of messing with your beige color scheme, beauty is in the eye of the color swatch holder and you rock your beigeness all you want!

2.) To my liberal San Francisco peeps - Yes, if you want Rewrite Beautiful to do some galatically, cool Street Art that takes up an entire city block with neon colors we are down like China Town!

For the rest of ya'll.... kick it and enjoy the show!

Theres so much more that I couldn't put up here. If you're up in the San Fran area I suggest you get a skateboard in order to see it all. It's the best way to cruise the streets and simultaneously check out the Street Art Scence. Pick one to your fancy: Rainbow Lovin, Musical Tunes or Hard as nails:

On the way back to So Cal. my little Sis, Sessa and I stopped at Swanton Farms for some Strawberry pickin'! I've never been Berry Pickin' but I loved pretending I was Strawberry Shortcake in the process...

Skipping to Berry Land...

Checkin' out the merchandise...

Tasting the merchandise...

Wearing the merchandise...Such a versatile product!

Homeward bound! And back to the Rewrite Beautiful Headquarters!

Hey ya'll! I've been spending alot of time networking with people and trying to get the word out there about REWRITE BEAUTIFUL. I have found that when I explain that REWRITE BEAUTIFUL is changing how women see beauty in themselves using Street Art I hear an overwhelming amount of men say, "I wish you did this for boys too. We really need it. You would be surprised how many men struggle with body image issues."

Believe me, I know the stats state that there is 8 million people in the United States suffering from an Eating Disorder, and of that number 10% are men. (It's estimated that the percentage suffering that are men is far higher, but because of the old fashioned idea that this disease strikes only women, few men come forward to find the help they deserve.) Though at this time REWRITE BEAUTIFUL has our hands full just helping women change the way they see beauty in themselves we want to do something for the "Beautiful Boys" out there. We also hope to implement some programs for the lads once we get the programs rolling for all the ladies...as the old saying goes, "Ladies first." ;)

In the meantime I'd like to give some props to some very awesome and "Beautiful" men who have helped REWRITE BEAUTIFUL over the past couple months. Without their donation of time and talents we might still be sitting on the idea and not in action. Just like women, beauty in men doesn't have to do with their bulging biceps, rock hard abs or chiseled face, BEAUTIFUL is found in the way they give of their time to charity, speak respectfully to their wives, run their business with honesty and live out their faith with humility. Yes these guys are all hansom but it’s who they are that makes them Beautiful People that we are proud to work with.

Yes! It's in the mail! REWRITE BEAUTIFUL has filed our 501(c)3 documents! Thank you Gibson Dunn and Crutcher for all of your awesome legal pro-bono help! We will be official soon. It's crazy to think the vision for REWRITE BEAUTIFUL happened last summer and almost a year later we are becoming official. Starting a non-profit is a slow journey. The key is to enjoy the conversations, passion and inspiration you gain along the way. As they say, "It's all about the journey, not the destination." That's alot easier said than done. Trust us, we want to be out there doing street art and CHANGING THE WAY WOMAN SEE THEMSELVES, but we realize that if we take our time to cultivate a strong, healthy and honest organization we will be more successful in the long run. Thank you all of you supporters who have been so patient with the process and so encouraging along the way.

You take matters into your own hands :)

Rewriting how the world sees beauty in women.

We were chillin' in the REWRITE BEAUTIFUL "headquarters" this weekend talking about how badly we need a Graphic Designer. We already had the studly Ari Glick help us out with the script on our logo. Props to Ari! But, we still need to get some posters and ad's done to display. When a very ambitious brunette raised her pink colored pencil and offered to take a stab at it. When she was done she told us she felt a little self concious about the work she did, but we quickly reminded her the message behind REWRITE BEAUTIFUL..."rewriting beauty with art" .... as individuals we are taking back the power to decide what we think is beautiful, we don't need other people to agree with us. So we told our little Miss Brunette..."Your ad is beautiful and we love it! It's goin' on the site!"...Heres to steppin' up and being your beautiful self...no matter what you or your art looks like!
