One in four girls has an eating disorder. Eating Disorders are the most deadly of all mental illnesses with 95% of those who have eating disorders between the ages of 12 and 25. Rewrite Beautiful prevents eating disorders through education. Using street art, a photo-documentary, Q&A panel and real life stories Rewrite Beautiful dispels myths about eating disorders. Take a look at what some faculty, students, parents and workshop participants have said about Irvina’s assemblies:
"Irvina It was so great meeting you last night! You really are such an inspiration and hearing your testimony was so encouraging. God really spoke truth to me last night through you. It is so crazy how God made our paths cross-i know He really wanted us to meet. Recovering from this eating disorder has been so painful and scary for me. Some days I just feel so hopeless and I just want it to be over. I don't have support from my parents and have felt so alone in this. Meeting you last night reminded me that God has His hand working in my life and that things will not always be this way. I cannot express how thankful I am for your beautiful heart and passion for recovery." – J.S., College student in eating disorder recovery
"It was so wonderful having you visit my classroom and talk to my students on Tuesday. The students were back in Room 8 today and everyone was looking at the Rewrite Beautiful wall and reading the things kids wrote as their Creativity, Kindness and Strength as they came in today. What a BEAUTIFUL idea you had to do those displays and leave them behind with the kids when you go! I am so impressed by the work that you do with young people and my prayer is that your influence and reach to heal young hearts and bodies will expand throughout your lifetime. I look forward to seeing you at Ensign again soon." – Barbara Wagner, Teacher, Ensign Jr. High School
"Rewrite Beautiful gave me more knowledge on why people put their bodies through diseases and how I can help a friend if they ever start showing signs." – McKenzie Soldin, Sophomore Student at Costa Mesa High School
"Rewrite Beautiful was both informative and touching. The women who spoke to us shared their stories and were very open to our questions, as a group we also shared different characteristics about ourselves that made us beautiful. After the assembly I found that I began to picture myself in a different way rather than just my appearance." – Alyssa Dasca, Junior Student, Costa Mesa High School
"I brought Rewrite Beautiful in because I felt that the subject matter was so important to be presented to middle and high school students. I want my girls to be confident and high positive body images, I know how hard high school can be and how stressed the girls get at times, I wanted to give them any opportunity I can to make sure they know help is out there and they are not alone, if any type of situation arises for them." – Kori Johnson, Cheerleading Coach, Costa Mesa High School
“What made me desire to have the message of Rewrite Beautiful taught to my students was that in all of my years as a student and as a teacher I have never heard the message Rewrite Beautiful delivers; beauty is not what the world says is beautiful, it is our actions; the things that we tend to overlook. We each bring so much to the world, it doesn’t have to do with how we look on the outside, but what is different about each one of us and how we can embrace that and each bring something magnificent to the table with our beautiful selves! My students still talk about the day Irvina came to make Rewrite Beautiful art with them. Thank you Rewrite Beautiful for showing them that each one of them is beautiful in their own ways, something they can keep with them forever!” – Jenna Duarte, Administrator, Whittier Christian School, Whittier, CA
"Thank you for the incredible Vision and Street Art Workshop you presented to Women of Pride Saturday. YOU inspired us! YOU gave us a purpose! YOU presented a solution! We loved YOU! Thank you for your dedication and giving nature to help others. It is commendable. YOU inspired us all! We love you! Women of Pride love you!" – Cathy Thomas “CT”, Mother, Women of Pride Club, Newport Beach, CA
"Thank you for sharing Rewrite Beautiful with us! The workshop was fun and the project was thought provoking. Irvina is awesome, her concept is brave and expansive. She has really 'stepped out of the box'. Her vision is huge and important....I love her ability to trust the universe with her intentions and to 'go for it'."
The Street Art teacher was amazing, I really loved the process he showed us.... more of a cerebral approach toward art than I usually take. I really enjoyed the journey and it gave me a new way to approach art with both sides of my brain engaged. The girl who shared her testimony showed incredible empathy and compassion; so heartfelt. I think the three of them make a perfect team for such an important mission. – Amanda Karnes, Student, Women of Pride Club, Santa Monica, CA
