Happy Friday BEAUTIFUL! It is a great honor to bring you these JOY-ful photos from our last Rewrite Beautiful Street Art lesson in Costa Mesa, CA. They were shot by the BEAUTIFUL Anna Joy of Anna Joy Photo and her STRONG 2nd shooter (and body guard) Michael Stoltz. Anna Joy not only volunteered her BEAUTIFUL photography talents she also very gracefully joined in on our Rewrite Beautiful/Strong lesson, sharing her own realizations of what makes her BEAUTIFUL. Anna Joy is a woman that exudes her BEAUTY in her faith, generosity and kindness towards others. She is one of those rare people that KNOWS she is beautiful simply because she was created for a BEAUTIFUL purpose... her personal purpose is glorify Jesus... I hope you look for your own personal and BEAUTIFUL purpose this holiday weekend ... it's there... you just have to look for it! I hope you'll come back here and tell us all the BEAUTIFUL things you found in yourself!

Hey BEAUTIFUL! So this past Saturday we posted some Rewrite Beautiful Street Art in the Santa Ana Artists Village. The first Saturday of every month there is an Artist Walk there so we thought it would be a great opportunity for some exposure. The funny thing is is not only did we get some exposure, but we got some Rewrite Beautiful PARTICIPANTS! (AKA Freelance Artists ;) ) Check this out.... some Rewrite Beautiful fans (the BEAUTIFUL Anita and the BEAUTIFUL Elana) were at the Artist Walk and messaged me this picture:
This dude Jorge saw our Rewrite Beautiful Street Art and took it upon himself to Rewrite Beautiful for none other but "himself" and then added it to the rest of our Street Art on the tree. I must admit, it made my Saturday night when I saw this... it just reminded me that we have our own ideas of how Street Art, beauty, relationships and careers are going to go down. We plan, we prep, we produce and then the whole game plan changes... to something even better than the original plan. Beautiful is changing guys and I'm so honored to be apart of it. I hope Jorge inspired you to make some Rewrite Beautiful Street Art and share it with the world and us!
P.S. A very special thanks to the BEAUTIFUL Erin who came out volunteered her time in the wee hours of Saturday morning to shoot these pictures! We love you Erin!
You're BEAUTIFUL!

Hellllllllllllo BEAUTIFUL! Happy Saturday kiddo's! I'm gonna take a step off the soap box today and introduce you to a BEAUTIFUL and BRAVE girl I know named Brooke. Brooke is what I like to call an “undercover Queen.” She is poised, classy, mellow and has an inner strength that she doesn't flash around to intimidate others, but instead quietly uses it to help her friends see their own beauty and strength. It's funny, I'm supposed to be Brooke's mentor, meaning I get excuses to go drink Chai Latte's at Alta with her, walk the beach and pet all the dogs walking by. But, more often than not I feel that Brooke teaches me more than I could have ever taught her. For instance the other day I was walking out of the doctor's office and opened a text from Brooke that said, “ It appears that as fashion models and media images of women have gotten smaller, adolescent girls have become unhappier. Today only 15% of teenage girls feels happy the ways she is. Compared to 29% just 10 years earlier. Booooooooo Society”
I laughed and said, “Sounds like you have something to say Missy! How about you blog for Rewrite Beautiful this week?” and the girl wrote up a blog in like an hour...I couldn't be prouder of my "Brookie Brookersons!" I think it takes a BRAVE person to stand up for what is right and to say what they want the world to look like even when every magazine, TV show and porn-o are saying the opposite. I hope you get a little educated on what she has to say about beauty and what you can do to change society.

BEAUTIFUL Society?
By: Brooke Constable
"Every society has a way of torturing its women, whether by binding
their feet or by sticking them into whalebone corsets. What
contemporary American culture has come up with is designer jeans."
—Joel Yager, M.D.
I was studying for my Clinical Child Psychology final and came across
an interesting few sentences in one of my chapters: "It appears that
as fashion models and media images of women have gotten smaller,
adolescent girls have become unhappier.” Today, only 15% of teenage
girls feel happy about the way she looks compared to 29% just 10 years
earlier.
What has changed??? Did our mothers experience less body
dissatisfaction than the young ladies today? All through history, the
dominant political climate and cultural standards always have shaped
the public’s view of the ideal female body type. However, today’s
culture is unique in that the media (TV, Internet, movies, and print)
has a far more powerful presence than ever before.
There is so much media battling us, we can use our own media and art
to ‘fight back!’ We can ‘Rewrite Beautiful’ with our peers and
influence the culture we live in. BEAUTIFUL is defined by our culture,
and WE make our culture.
Recent work has used the Tripartite Influence Model (Keery, van den
Berg, & Thompson, 2004; Shroff & Thompson, 2006), to propose that
peers, parents, and media are the main sources of influence
surrounding body dissatisfaction and disturbed eating. Also, social
reinforcement theory (Thompson & Stice, 2001), suggests that the
values and standards regarding appearance are determined and
perpetuated by neighboring or proximate, peers who reinforce the thin
ideal promoted by the media. And yes, though correlation does not
equal causation, many studies are showing high correlation with media
exposure and perceptions of the thin ideal. Coincidence? I think
not….
How can we battle this??? Well, I’ve dug up my old research proposals
that looked into body dissatisfaction and social support, and found an
overwhelming number of studies that support the idea that girls with
high levels of social support tend to experience less body
dissatisfaction. So, hang with some buddies!!! Join groups!
Hang with girls who are POSITIVE, CREATIVE, KIND and STRONG!
But beware: surround yourself with women who do not judge their bodies,
are overly competitive, perfectionist, and media obsessed; that can
feed into high body dissatisfaction.
I know we all fall somewhere on the dimension of self-obsession from
time-to-time (hey, it’s the nature of the disease), but when we can
get ‘out of self’ and with others we are less likely to view ourselves
on appearance alone. As women, we are relational creatures and we can
create a good deal of self-esteem from our interactions with others
and our relationships. I guess that idea of ‘feeling a part of’ is
critical to our happiness. Why do you think so many of us need our
daily dose of 12 step meetings?
We can “feel a part of” and create positive media with Rewrite
Beautiful Street Art. Give rise to your own Rewrite Beautiful Street
Art somewhere noticeable in your community, take a picture of it, and
send it to us via e-mail at RewriteBeautiful@gmail.com
Beauty doesn’t stand alone!

Hello there BEAUTIFUL! Happy Wednesday! This weeks Rewrite Beautiful has asked “What is BEAUTIFUL” the answer? Creativity! What makes Rewrite Beautiful different is that we don't believe in cookie cutter molds that claim to be BEAUTIFUL. We believe in creating your own mold! Why? Cause we're artsy-kids who like push the envelope and obnoxiously practice our pirouettes in Art Museums just cause we can!
So this week were focusing on all elements of artistic creativity as beauty. Lucky you cause you get to see some of our BEAUTIFUL friends in action! Today, BEAUTIFUL is SINGING. Now if you asked me what my beautiful attributes are vocally I would have to tell you they are #1. Screaming in public just to make my friends laugh and also just in case anyone didn't get their cardio for the day and need some blood pumped to their heart # 2. Talking; cause I love to talk about all of my BEAUTIUL friends and how much they inspire me! But, singing...singing ain't my BEAUTIFUL gig! But, that's okay cause I have other stuff that makes me BEAUTIFUL. But, dude do I appreciate some lungs on a lady! I think singing is such a BEAUTIFUL attribute in a girl because #1.) It shows hard work to memorize the words to a song, learn the tune and beat #2.) The dudette has to have some serious courage to stand up in front of a group of people and entertain!
So let me introduce you to a BEAUTIFUL friend of mine named MacKenzie. MacKenzie is one of my amazing art students and in only 9 years of life has already shared so much beauty with others through her singing. MacKenzie will be performing the song Lean on Me. I know... seriously... if the scenario were any cuter she'd be a cupcake! I love that she is singing this song cause it's just the ooey gooey goodness of what Rewrite Beautiful is about! Enjoy her BEAUTIFULness and please leave your applauding comments below in the comment section.....

One of our favorite REWRITE BEAUTIFUL supporters is living in the last call-namesake of all brewery's and pub's "Sweet Home Alabama". Our beautiful friend Jeannette made this REWRITE BEAUTIFUL Street Art piece for her beautiful mama, Anne who lives here in Newport Beach, California. I absolutely love everything about this piece...it's placement on a tree, (Yeah tree's!) the kiss between Anne and her hunka-hunka- burnin' love son Matt (that I have a MILD crush on) and simply just what Jeannette wrote about her BEAUTIFUL mama. It take's a beautiful woman to make a beautiful woman and I can not only see, but I can read the proof that Anne is just that: BEAUTIFUL. What about you? Have you Rewritten Beautiful today?

I about choked on my scalding hot latte from Kean when my friend said to me, “Why should I care about those girls with Eating Disorders? That’s not my problem. That’s their parents problem. I adore you Irvina and I will always support everything you do, but I could care less. Don't get me wrong, I think what you're doing is cool, but it’s just not relevant to me.”
I rebutted, (and sort of shrieked) “But, how can you say that?!?! You have a wife and a mom and a sister?”
He said, “Yeah, but their healthy. This doesn’t effect them or me.”
I sighed and out of the corner of my eye I saw my friends beautiful wife in the distance a confident, beautiful woman that knows she has value in all the many facets that make her “beautiful”. And then I sat up in my barstool and said,
“And THAT is exactly why you should care.”
With a smirk he said, “You have the floor my friend.”
I explained, “Imagine if your beautiful wife didn’t think she was so beautiful? What if she was constantly talking about how much she needs to lose weight, asking you to confirm her beauty and was so insecure about her physical appearance that she feared food? What if she wouldn’t eat out at restaurant with all of our friends? What if instead of spending her day rehabilitating people to health she instead obsessed about her waist line and bra size? How would that affect YOUR marriage? How would that affect YOUR life? What if your mom avoided you by constantly making excuses that she had to go to the gym and never shared some chocolate chip cookies with you? How would that affect YOU? And what if growing up one of your sisters refused to eat her breakfast, lunch and dinner? How would that have affected YOUR childhood?”
I have had a handful of people ask if REWRITE BEAUTIFUL is a religious organization I say, “Well, yes and no.” We did not file as a church or religious organization because we want to first and foremost be inclusive not exclusive. We know that Eating Disorders are universal and we want the ability to REWRITE BEAUTIFUL to be pen to everyone and anyone. But, the yes comes in where we believe that every human being is a unique creation. Every woman on this earth is someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, someone’s mommy, someone’s aunt and someone’s friend and REWRITE BEAUTIFUL knows that a girl with an Eating Disorder can’t be the unique girl she was created to be while she has a gnarly diseases taking her down.
So if you wonder, “Why should I care about THOSE GIRLS?” I ask that you think about a girl you absolutely adore...A girl who makes you smile....whose laugh is contagious... and imagine that girl present in body, but dead in spirit and I think you’ll have your answer. This is the girl I think about...
Her name is Ever. Ever played a huge part in establishing REWRITE BEAUTIFUL in that she helped the vision for it to actually take place...I used to rock her to bed when she was a newborn baby. I would look at her, this tiny person who was happy, serene and playing with my hair (when she was supposed to be falling asleep) and I just knew that I didn't want her to ever believe that she was anything less than beautiful. It's because of Ever, that I care about THOSE GIRLS? How about you? Who do you want to REWRITE BEAUTIFUL for? I look forward to hearing...
Kiss, Paint, Create!
